Class General Ludington (Locobase 11550)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, 1903, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 26, p. 28. Works number was 22739 in August 1903.

Locobase notices that a popular Baldwin narrow-gauge tank-locomotive design at the turn of the century used 9" x 14" cylinders and 30" diameter drivers. In the instance of the General Ludington, however, the particular bit of railway was standard gauge. [General M I Ludington held the title of Quartermaster General during the 1898 Spanish-American War. Outfitting a suddenly assembled army of volunteers earned him at least his name on a little engine.]
