Class 103 (Locobase 11101)

Wasatch Railroad Contractors Steam Locomotive information packet "Locomotive Equipment for Sale" dated 21 November 2009, supplemented by DeGolyer, Vol 63, pp. 213+ and Vol 78, pp. 346+. Works numbers were 52436 in October 1919, 53075-53076 in March 1920, 53181 in April, 53536 in August, 58490 in June 1925, 59268 in May 1926.

In 2009, the Philippine sugar central La Carlota, based on Occidental Negros, decided to close down its three-foot gauge operation and put all of its steam locomotives up for sale. WCR's packet of five locomotives includes four that all have the same dimensions and all of which have side tanks and tenders. Two of these -- works 53536 and 59268 -- were delivered directly to La Carlota along with two more that presumably were scrapped or deemed too far gone for sale.

Information that 52436 was produced in October 1919 as an 0-6-2T for the Yuchausti Sugar Company is unlikely to be correct as the specification shows it to have been ordered as an 0-6-0 for La Carlota.

The other locomotive initially confounded Locobase. The works number given in the sale document -- 53976 -- was attached to a much bigger 0-6-0 switcher. The answer lies in a typographical error: 53076, along with 53075, were ordered by Guy T Slaughter for La Carlota and went into service as their 101-102.
