Class 3 (Locobase 12403)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 41, p. 179. Works number was 17597 in March 1900.

The SMR covered 2.25 miles from South Manchester to North Manchester. This tank was one of two locomotives operating on the line, which shuttled back and forth between connections to larger railroads.


Class 4 (Locobase 13923)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 41, p. 179. Works number was 36441 in April 1911.

Eleven years after the SMRR took delivery of a 2-4-4T from Baldwin, it went back to Philadelphia for a significantly larger version. Baldwin reused the design from the 1908 Rahway Valley (Locobase 12884), a relatively large example of this wheel arrangement.
