Providence, Warren & Bristol 4-4-6 Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class Annawomscutt (Locobase 8428)

Data from 1891 edition of Matthais Forney's Catechism of the Locomotive, pp. 140-141.

Locobase estimates the boiler pressure, but knows nothing more about this design. It is an unusual arrangement from a small builder. It is also unlikely to have been repeated because of the low percentage of the total weight that rested on the drivers.

Berliner's categorization of wheel arrangments -- http://home.att.net/~Berliner-Ultrasonics/whytesys.html, accessed 21 May 2007 -- shows the building date. And John H White, Early American Locomotives (New York: Dover, 1972), pl.100, says that the Annawomscutt was rebuilt as a "4-wheel engine" in 1891. It's not clear what arrangement that phrase might signify.
