Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 11, p. 255 Works numbers were 7013 in November 1883 and 7400 in August 1884

The ER & E operated in northern California, running up the canyons carved by its namesake river as that stream headed northwest toward Humboldt Bay. It was a lightly built road for the standard gauge and required these small Eight-wheelers (and a Mogul) to run on it.

The ER & E remained independent for almost 20 years before being merged with two other railroads into the San Francisco & Northwestern in 1903. The SF & NW in turn was merged into the Northwestern Pacific in 1907. The two 4-4-0s continued in service until they were srcrapped in July 1920 and December 1916, respectively.
