Class 3 (Locobase 12264)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 21, p. 157. Works number was 15810 in March 1898.

Locobase wonders if the specified operating boiler pressure remained in effect for long. Limitations on axle loading led to a calculated F/A of 3.26, which would render this small Eight-wheeler highly prone to slipping. Reducing the MEP to 150 psi would have made the 3 much more sure-footed.

This Arizona road ran the 3 for about 10 years before it was taken over by the Maricopa & Phoenix in April 1906 and renumbered 6. The M & P renumbered it 75 in 1907, then was taken over by the Arizona Eastern in December 1910. 75 bore the AE herald for less than 5 years before heading to the ferro-knacker in April 1915.
