Originally ordered to the New York & Sea Beach, this tank locomotive went to South Jersey to run along the beach from Sea Grove to Cape May City. Its smoky, sooty effluents were unpopular from the start (Tischler quotes Joe Jordan's Cape May Point - The Illustrated History: 1875 to the Present about the reception:"they were jerky, noisy, and dirty û all those coal cinders getting in your eyes and throat ....") and the system was electrified in 1892.
