Class 56 (Locobase 3288)

Data from Railroad Gazette (22 April 1898). B Rumary's summary of Richmond production, supplied by Allen Stanley in March 2004, shows these locomotives to have been works #2765-2769.

Designed to the specifications of JH Sands, the SC&G's general manager, these compounds were claimed to be hauling almost twice the train of that pulled by simple-expansion contemporaries on the railroad. Railroad Gazette noted that indicator cards, "taken while the new engines were hauling maximum loads and working compound, show a very even distribution of the work done in the high and low-pressure cylinders."
