The Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad is located in central Iowa and it operates steam powered passenger excursion trains on former C&NW tracks. In 1988, it ordered a new 2-8-2 locomotive from the Datong Company in China and it was delivered in 1989. The cost was $350,000.00, which included a shipping cost of over $100,000.00. The railroad operates this locomotive three times a day on weekend and holidays from Memorial Day through the last weekend of October.

Heading west along US30 from I-35 or IA17, or heading east along US30 over the Des Moines River, turn north at the stop sign south of Boone, Iowa. Continue north along Story St., Boone, after about two miles, cross the first set of railroad tracks. One block further north, cross the second, electrified railroad track then turn left at the stop lights onto 11th St. Continue west for about half a mile until you reach the BSV depot.
