Class 10 (Locobase 13178)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 31, p. See also Mississippi Rails at http://www.msrailroads.com/AT&N.htm. Works number was 31844 in October 1907.

The AT&N grew out of the Carrollton Short Line, itself a creature of John Taylor Cochrane's Tuscaloosa Belt Line and which opened between Reform, Ala and nearby Carrollton 10 miles away in 1900 and to Aliceville in 1902 and junction with the Frisco. An extension south 76 miles from Reform to York led to a name change and the AT & N was formed on 29 September 1906.

Soon afterward, the AT & N paid $9,800 to Baldwin for the 10 as one of its new engines.. Six years later, the AT & N was reorganized as a consolidation of this line, the Tombigbee Valley and the Mobile Terminal Railway. Apparently still financially shaky, the line went into receivership in 1915 and emerged in 1918 after foreclosure as the Alabama, Tennessee & Northern Railroad Corporation.

The 10 was sold in 1925 to the Mississippian Railway of Amory, Miss. and operated on their rails until scrapped in 1947.
