Beaufort & Pamlico 2-6-0 "Mogul" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 1 (Locobase 12317)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 22, p. 20. Works number was 16425 in December 1898.

Although the locomotive was lettered for the B & P, Gene Connelly's Baldwin listing shows it as belonging to the Roanoke Railroad & Lumber Company.

Whoever its original operator might have been, the little Mogul was a logging locomotive in eastern North Carolina and had a grate sized to handle "wood of poor quality." The 2-6-0 is shown working for the RR & LC's Washington & Plymouth Railroad as their #1. When the W & P was bought by the Southern in 1904, the 1 wound up working for the Beaufort County Lumber Company.
