Class Alfred V S Olcott (Locobase 12492)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 23, p. 242. Works number was 18884 in April 1901 and 32715 in February 1908.

The Huckleberry served vacation destinations in New York's Catskill Mountains over 5.2 miles of line. Specifications for the Alfred VS Olcott included the note that the 5% grades up and down were engineered without any intervening levels. Maximum curvature rose to 30 degrees. A second engine of the identical design arrived in 1908; it was named Isaac Pruyn.

The railway stored these little Moguls from 1918-1924, after which they were sold to locomotive rebuilder/reseller Birmingham Car & Locomotive for $1,750. BR & L sold the 2 to the Chicago, Milwaukee, St Paul & Pacific, which put them in its own class NM2. In 1933, both went to the Bellevue & Cascade, which closed in 1936.

The original 1, by then renumbered 3, was then sold to the Au Sable & Northwestern of northeastern Michigan, which renumbered 8.
