Dayton-Goose Creek 2-6-0 "Mogul" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 103 (Locobase 14676)

Data from DeGolyer, Vol 62, pp. 35+. Works number was 52167 in August 1919.

As noted in Locobase , the Dayton-Goose Creek Railroad operated in Texas's oil patch, which meant relatively undemanding grades (0.7%) and curves (12 1/2 degrees or radii of 459 feet/139.9 metres). This was a tidy little oil burner that rode on 60 lb/yard (30 kg/metre) rails, superheated and using 9 1/2" (241 mm) piston valves.

The 103 gained new owners in 1926 when the Texas & New Orleans bought out the D-GC. They placed the Mogul in class M-20, assigned it road number 481, and operated it into the 1950s. It was scrapped in October 1953.
