Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 2 (Locobase 14279)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 52, p. 288+. Works number was 41465 in June 1914.

The Laurel River company was based in Jennington, WVa and this engine rolled on 56-60 lb/yard (28-30 kg/metre) rail and was to scale 3% grades and snake around 55 degree curves. To accomplish the latter, the leading truck was given 6 3/4" (171 mm) of swing to each side.

After less than ten years, the LR sold the 2 to locomotive rebuilder/reseller Southern Iron & Equipment, who sold it almost immediately to the Preston Railroad of Crellin., Md as their 15. The PRR linked Crellin with St George, WVa, 46 miles (71 km) distant and operated the 15 into the 1940s.
