York Southern 2-6-0 "Mogul" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class J C Neville (Locobase 6022)

Locomotive data from George W. Fitch, Jr.'s compilation (Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Preservation and Historical Society photocopy reprint, 2004). See also DeGolyer, Volume 20, p. 8. Works number was 14408 in 1895.

A month after the York Southern's #1 4-4-0 arrived came this Mogul (Baldwin class 8-26-C-157). If #1 was mixed-traffic, the road's solitary 2-6-0 was all freight.

When the YS was merged with the Baltimore & Lehigh and renamed the Maryland & Pennsylvania, the 2 came along. Boiler pressure was later reduced to 155 psi. #2 carried on for more than 30 years before being sold to the Boston Iron & Metal Company on 30 September 1927.
