Class 4 (Locobase 14253)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volumes 52, p. 46. Works number was 41811 in December 1914.

Powellton, WVa was the headquarters of a coal-mining and coke-manufacturing company that lay on the Powellton branch of the Chesapeake & Ohio. The coking operation was the largest on the C&O.

The specs show that the Mount Carbon Railway had 56 lb/yard (28-kg/metre) rail for 3 miles (4.8 km) and 70 lb/yard (35 kg/metre) for an additional mile. 12 degree curves (radii of 478 feet/145.7 metres). The engine was expected to operate at 8-10 mph (13-16 kph) on the level. Inspection of the engine on 22 December 1914 inspired a Hereafter note that admonished: "Omit the unnecessary cleaing holes in the boiler an[d] provide holes in accordance with our regular practice."

The 4 later operated on the Elkhorn Piney Coal Company.
