Pennsylvania, Poughkeepsie & Boston 2-6-0 "Mogul" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 13 / N-3a (Locobase 11698)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, 1890, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 16, p. 72. .

Works numbers were 11089 and 11093 in August 1890.

These Moguls were very similar to the 2-6-0s delivered in the same period to the Central Vermont (Locobase 11646). The PP & B was a reorganization of the bankrupt Pennsylvania, Slatington & New England and came into being in 1887. Although the construction that had begun under the PS & NE was resumed, the PP & B staggered into bankruptcy in 1894. It emerged as the Lehigh & New England, an well-known bridge railroad that remained independent until its closure in 1961.

Meanwhile, however, the Moguls in this entry were sold in December 1894 to the Philadelphia & Reading, where they were classed as N-3a.
