Class 15 (Locobase 14234)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University , Vol 50, p. 275. Works number was 41015 in December 1913.

Locobase 13648 shows the saturated Moguls that arrived earlier in 1913. This entry duplicated that design except for the substitution of 22 flues for 120 tubes in order to accommodate the superheater.

It served the PS&N for more than 20 years before it was scrapped in 1936.

Class 16 (Locobase 14090)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University , Volume 46, p. 261. Works numbers were 39662-39663 in April 1913.

Only 8 years into what would be a terminal receivership that resulted in its abandonment in 1947, the PS & N nevertheless could and did restock its roster with new equipment. These relatively large Moguls headed both passenger and freight trains. Their service ended in December 1936 and they were scrapped.

Class 5 (Locobase 2611)

Data from Catalogue Descriptive of Simple and Compound Locomotives built by Brooks Locomotive Works, Dunkirk, NY (Buffalo, NY: Matthew-Northrup Company, 1899).Works numbers were 2736 in March 1897 and 2739 in April.

Builder info from B.Rumary, 25 Kingscombe, Gurney Slade, Radstock, BA3 4TH, ENGLAND and Jeremy Lambert as supplied by Allen Stanley in March 2004. Rumary-Lambert credit the design with a 26" stroke, but the catalog said 24" and that's closer to contemporary information.

Fitted with crown bar, wagon top boiler with steam dome just ahead of the cab. The tender sloped, presumably because this engine would be backing up as often as going forward in its branch-line duties.

When they were delivered, the railroad was known as the Buffalo & St Mary's, but it acquired the "Southwestern" very shortly thereafter. And by 1899, the railroad was absorbed by the Pittsburgh, Shawmut & Northern and the two engines were renumbered 20-21.

20 was scrapped in 1929 and 21 in December 1934.
