Class F-3-A (Locobase 16212)

Data from DeGolyer, Volume 35, p. 19. Works numbers for C&S 350-354 were 35771-35773, 35796-3797 in December 1910; those for the FW&DC 501-505 were 35798 in December 1910 and 35854-35857 in January 1911.

Four years after the last Baldwin Ten-wheeler, the C&S and FW&DC took delivery of these much bigger Pacifics from Baldwin as a single batch. Drury (1993) says they were copies of the CB & Q's S-2 class (see Locobase 9384). All had 12" (305 mm) piston valves and Emerson superheaters (24 flues and a superheater surface area of 845 sq ft). Emerson superheater tubes had thicker walls (BWG #9)

In 1923, the C&S made over the boiler while installing a 32-tube Schmidt superheater (see Locobase 6757) while the FW&DC updated the 501-505 (see Locobase 9853).
