Class 3 (Locobase 11617)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines, 1888, as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 15, p. 72. Works numbers were 9953, 9966 in April 1889.

The order shown in the specs book depicts a small 6-wheeler optimized for fast starts and stops and trailing a 4-wheel tender. Sure enough, contemporary photographs show just such a locomotive pulling 3 cars on the surface portion of the BB & WE.

It was a short-lived career. The BB & WE was electrified in 1893 and the 3 was sold to the Nova Scotia Development Company. The 4 may or may not have been completed as a tank locomotive. In 1893, it was sold to Hunters Run & Slate Belt, a 13.5-mile short line in western Pennsylvania.
