Class 5 (Locobase 14051)

Data from Baldwin Negative 7802 as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University and archived at,321. See also DeGolyer, Vol 65, pp. 21+. Works number was 54231 in January 1921.

Although similar in many respects to the 1914 engine shown in Locobase 14050, this logging Prairie was considerably heavier, had a larger boiler pressed to a higher degree, slightly larger grate, was fitted with a good-sized superheater, and served its larger cylinders through 8" piston valves.

Long-Bell soon redeployed this locomotive on the Sibley Lake Bisteneau & Southern Railway. See Locobase 13449 for a history of the SLB & S.

The ASLLC was organized at Pine Bluff, Ark on 14 June 1911 to harvest hardwood, which was a first for its parent Long Bell Lumber Company.
