King Ryder Lumber Company 2-6-2 "Prairie" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 48 (Locobase 11009)

Data from "Logging Locomotives", Record of Recent Construction #96 (Baldwin Locomotive Works, 1918), p. 12-13; and DeGolyer, Vol 62, pp. 360+. Works number was 51941 in June 1919. See for more information on Bon Ami.

Bon Ami, Louisiana was the headquarters of the KR Lumber Company which lumbered in southwestern La until the mid-1920s. This cabbage-stacker ran on wood, of which 3 1/2 cords filled the tender.

When the mill closed, the railroad did too and presumably the 48 went off to other work as well.
