Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Volume 43, p. 269 . Works number was 39005 in January 1913.

St Croix Timber of New Richmond, Wisc was located in Douglas County in the extreme northwestern part of the Badger State as part of the Empire Lumber Company's ....empire. As with most logging Prairie engines, the 1 had several owners. In this case, all of the owners were in Wisconsin. In 1915, she was passed on to Mellen Lumber of Mellen, Wisc as their #5. In 1928, Mellen sold the 5 to Roddis Lumber & Veneer of Marshfield, which upgraded the 5's road number to 7.

RL &V operated the engine for about a decade, then sold it to locomotive rebuilder/reseller Southern Iron & Equipment in 1938. Apparently, the engine lay dormant for almost a decade before going to work for Dells Paper & Pulp of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
