Became the first steam locomotive in the world confirmed to have reached 100 mph (1934). Operated in the US and Canada from 1969 to 1971. Returned to operation in January 2016.

Painted in LNER wartime black livery in August 2021 during its overhaul. Returned to operation in March 2022. Repainted back into BR express passenger blue livery in January 2023.
