Artesian Belt 4-6-0 "Ten-wheeler" Locomotives of the USA

Class Details by Steve Llanso of Sweat House Media

Class 2 (Locobase 13903)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University, Volume 41, p. 79. For an fascinating article on the Artesian Belt, see Carl Codney and Jim King, "A Road to Nowhere - Charles Simmons and the Artesian Belt Railroad". ( - it's well worth finding and reading it. Works number was 37614 in March 1912.

Texas's Artesian Belt bought this as possibly one of the last Ten-wheelers to be delivered with a saturated boiler. At some point, apparently after it left the AB's successor, the San Antonio Southern, the engine's boiler was substantially modified to accept a superheater; see Locobase 7754.
