Class 92 (Locobase 12855)

Data from Baldwin Locomotive Works Specification for Engines as digitized by the DeGolyer Library of Southern Methodist University Vol 48, p. 251. Works numbers were 40311-40313 in August 1913; 41917-41919 in February 1915.

Although the boiler barrel and tube and flue layout were the same in this sextet of Ten-wheelers as it was in the earlier Consolidations (Locobase 12854), the design addressed the need for mixed-traffic locomotives on a relatively light right-of-way.

All of them served the LR & N and its successor, the Louisiana & Arkansas until after World War II. Two had their cylinders relined to 19" diameters and received 63" drivers, 397 in January 1934 and 396 in December 1938. 393 and 395 were sold in December 1947 to M Beychok, scrap dealer. 397 ws scrapped in January 1948 and 394 followed in September 1950. 392and 396 departed The Better Way in the same year, but for Mexico's SCOP (Sociedad CO de Petroleos).


Class 95 (Locobase 12856)

Continuing a line of small, superheated engines suitable for a primarily freight-centered business, this trio of Ten-wheelers repeated the dimensions of the set purchased in 1913 (Locobase 12855). Driver diameter was reduced by 2"and the boiler was set at a higher pressure. (The specs show the same tractive effort as the 92s, however.)

All of them served the LR & N and its successor, the Louisiana & Arkansas until after World War II. 95 was sold in March 1947 to M Beychok, scrap dealer.

96 was rebuilt in 1938 with 19" x 26" cylinders powering 69" drivers (according to Gene Connelly's listing); 97's similar rebuild used 63" drivers. 96 joined the 95 in its September 1950 departure for Mexico's SCOP (Sociedad CO de Petroleos). 97 was scrapped in January 1948.
